| April 12 | District 29A delegates endorsed Randy Demmer as the Republican candidate for the State House. |
| April 3 | Citizens Against Government Waste has published its latest report of Washington’s pork barrel spending. In fiscal year 2007, 11,610 projects totaling $17.2 billion were allocated due to earmarks. Minnesota’s Norm Coleman signed on to 94 projects and Amy Klobuchar to 99, each totaling about $175 million. Hillary Clinton led the remaining presidential candidates by being part of 281 such projects worth almost $300 million. Barack Obama was part of 53 such projects for almost $100 million. John McCain? No projects and $0. |
| March 29 | Brian Davis was endorsed to run against Tim Walz as our First District Republican candidate for Congress. As the endorsement required a super majority of 60%, many thought the convention would go a long time, as multiple ballots were cast and counted. Instead, on the first ballot, Davis received 160 votes: 3 more than the threshold. Interestingly, some delegates voted for Davis because they wanted to retain Randy Demmer’s Republican presence in St. Paul. Demmer hasn’t decided whether he will run to retain his seat in November. |
