Senate
Minnesota is partitioned into 67 senate districts that define the areas represented by each state senator. Olmsted county is part of state senate districts 24, 25 and 20. Boundaries of each senate district may be redrawn every 10 years, based on the national census. Each district is defined so as to have roughly the same population. State senators are elected to four-year terms. However, two years after each census, redistricting requires all senators to be up for election.
House Representatives
For the state house representation, each senate district is split into two, A and B halves. Boundaries of each house district may be redrawn every 10 years, based on the national census. Each house district is defined so as to have roughly the same population.
Olmsted county contains or is part of state house districts 20B, 24A, 24B, 25A and 25B.
Members of the Minnesota House of Representatives serve two year terms. The entire body is elected at the same time.
